Full-time study of economics in Košice started at the branch office in Košice on 01/09/1969. At the time there were two departments: Department of Automatic Management Systems and Department of National Economy. Later the Department of ASR was canceled and four new departments were set up. One of them was the Department of Business Science. It was later renamed the Department of Business Administration and on 01/02/1997 to the Department of Management .

Important people in the dawn of this department were mostly prof. Ing. John Korčmároš, CSc., prof. Ing. Ľudovít Mesároš, CSc., prof. Ing. Štefan Čarnický, PhD., assoc. Ing. Štefan Vružek, CSc. and assoc. prof. Ing. Milan Polončák, CSc.

Department of management

Until August 31,  2022, the head of the department was Prof. Dipl. Ing. Bohuslava Mihalčová, PhD., & PhD., EUR ING.

8 internal teachers (1 professor, 3 associate professors, 3 assistant professors (one of them on maternal leave), 2 PhD students worked at the Department of Management in the academic year 2021/2022. The Department provided teaching management disciplines at first, second and third degree of study in full-time and part-time study. Materials provided by the department not only provided students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, but equal emphasis was also on developing practical managerial knowledge, skills and competences.

Members of the department were actively involved in research projects of the University of Economics in Bratislava, as well as to projects financed by the Ministry of Education (VEGA, KEGA and APVV). To address these projects, the members of the department organized scientific seminars and workshops. From 2015, the Department organized the International Scientific Conference of MTS (Marketing Management, Trade, Financial and Social Aspects of Business) each year.

The members of the department published their scientific findings particularly in quality scientific journals and proceedings, registered in the database Scopus, Web of Science and Web of Knowledge, etc.

The department actively engaged in cooperation with national and foreign institutions, especially with the University of Tomáš Baťa in Zlín, Prague University of Economics and Business in Prague, Faculty of Economics in Bolona, Ningbo University in China, with the University of Parthenope in Naples, with the University of Finance and Administration in Prague, etc.

The members of the department were responsible for issuing the faculty scientific journal  Business Revue  and on-line professional journal Management in Theory and Practice.

 

Department of Economics

Until August 31,  2022, the head of the department was Prof. Dipl. Ing. Bohuslava Mihalčová, PhD., & PhD., EUR ING.

Department of Economics taught and provided scientific research activities oriented on economic theory, economic policy, finance and banking, financial markets and the doctrine of Business. Department addressed also the issues of the environment economics, renewable energy sources, and the sustainability of natural resources.

The department participated in solving both the VEGA and KEGA projects as well as some other projects announced by prestigious organizations. Department encouraged and supported young scientists within their scientific-research activity. The research results were presented at domestic and international scientific conferences, symposia and national and international scientific journals. The results of the department’s scientific work were implemented in the teaching of the whole curriculum. They also served such a source for modernization of literature.

The Department of Economy participated in the preparation of both the economists and managers for enterprises within the accredited study programs in the whole spectrum of degrees of study from bachelor to Philosophiae doctor. Modules that the department provided help to fill up the profile of graduates of individual study programs significantly. The aim of educational activity was to provide students with the theoretical aspects and empirical knowledge of individual economic science and to contribute significantly to the development of economic thinking.
