On 5 October 2026, an international event entitled “Responsible AI: Building AI We Can Trust” took place at TU Dortmund University in Dortmund, Germany, as part of the FAIR-PLAI project. The event was also attended by representatives of the Faculty of Business Economics of the University of Economics in Bratislava, based in Košice (PHF EUBA). It provided a platform for expert discussions on the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the integration of these topics into higher education.

The programme consisted of expert lectures and interactive workshops focusing on four key thematic areas. In his lecture, “Detecting Bias and Ensuring Fairness,” Michal Tkáč addressed issues related to data sources, bias detection, and ensuring fairness in artificial intelligence systems. Erick M. Fiestas Sorogastua, in his presentation “Explaining and Interpreting AI,” explored the explainability of AI-driven decisions and the associated ethical considerations.

The legal and regulatory aspects of artificial intelligence were presented by Michael Henke and Lara Kuhlmann in their lecture “AI Do’s and Don’ts, Laws and Regulations,” which covered both the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). In his presentation “Green and Sustainable AI,”Cees Haringa focused on measuring and reducing the environmental footprint of AI systems.

The lectures were followed by interactive workshops, during which participants shared their experiences and discussed opportunities for integrating the principles of responsible AI into teaching and learning. The discussions highlighted a strong interest in these topics among both educators and students, as well as the need for their more systematic integration into educational programmes.

The insights gained from the event will contribute to the development of educational approaches and materials within the FAIR-PLAI project. These initiatives aim to enhance understanding of artificial intelligence, promote critical evaluation of AI-generated outputs, and encourage the responsible use of AI among students and educators, including those without a specialised technical background.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security. The participation of faculty representatives provided valuable opportunities for exchanging expertise and strengthening international cooperation in the field of responsible AI education.
